The Sensitization Of medical Students to AntiMicrobial Resistance (SOS-AMR) program was designed to improve knowledge and awareness of AMR among third and final year medical students. The project was implemented across 5 medical colleges in Chennai and involved a pre-test to assess baseline knowledge, access to 18 online modules focused on basics of microbiology, pharmacology, infection control, diagnosis and treatment of common infections and AMR and stewardship and a post-test to evaluate impact of the program. SOS-AMR was designed by doctors from the departments of critical care medicine, infectious diseases, and infection control at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai in collaboration with TACT Academy.
The program was funded by an educational grant from Pfizer Inc. Pfizer’s role was restricted to funding and they had no role in the design or conduct of the program.
The online modules have now been shared with the Department of Public Health, Government of Tamil Nadu for distribution to other medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. They are also available here as an open-access resource.
